Hey gang,

I am planning on making a serious battle maison run in XY, but I hear there are precautions that need to be taken to avoid AI cheapness and the like. Any tips for a rookie? Thanks bunches in advance!

Mega Kangaskhan, stalling Gliscor, assault vest power up punch Azumarill. Lead with Kangaskhan, and don't be afraid to switch. Also, there were times where I would actually stall out an opponent's PP with Gliscor, sometimes that's the only way out. The thing that have me trouble was a hex Cofagrigus, but I didn't have earthquake on Kangaskhan so mummy kept getting me. I was up to 80 in a row with this team when me forgetting to take a break and my 3ds going dead defeated me. At least I think, I haven't had the courage to turn it on again.

The main thing is you need a stall breaker. Kangaskhan is also pretty necessary to beat focus sash and substitute, but Gliscor is an emergency button that I never will go without. And I took Azumarill because it beat the types Gliscor couldn't and it has reliable priority. Also, one power up punch, and you've got a choice banded Azumarill that can switch moves.

This all assumes you're doing singles.

If you want to get further doubles is easier than singles (supposedly triples is even easier but I've never tried it. also it takes way longer to do each battle)

Try not to use pokemon that rely on sub-100 accuracy moves for coverage. Megamence, Megakhan, Megagardy, Megamawile, Aegislash, Greninja, Talonflame, Dragonite all work really well in my experience in either format. For doubles find good pairings - Intimidate is amazing. Have a steel or fairy type for scarf chomp/ tyrantrum outrages which have caught me out occasionally. Carracosta is an asshole who runs weakness policy and ruined my 80 streak Sad AI almost never switch, take advantage of that. AI can't handle King's Shield, so I reiterate - AEGISLASH. AI also doesn't get destiny bond, so if you have a lead that can be a good strategy.

This is kinda rambly but I hope you can salvage some good advice from that.

EDIT: Zard-Y also rules. Well, and Zard-X. But Zard-Y rules singles AND doubles

Bunsel and Karp have posted insights for Singles and Doubles respectively, so I'm going to do Triples.

For Triples, it's just like doubles. It's only slightly longer because of the frame rate - it slows down.

Pokemon with Multi-hit moves evidently work wonders but watch out for Wide Guard users, those can ruin your day. If you see something that can potentially run Wide Guard, take it down immediately. Have a Wide Guard user yourself to break the opponent's momentum like those who run Scarfed Aerodactyl or Archeops who love spamming Rock Slide from the middle.

The middle pokemon can be someone who can decently run both multi-hit and non-multi-hit moves. It can be flanked by two Pokemon who can run multi-hit moves from either side, also while maintaining immunity like for instance an Earthquake Pokemon in the middle flanked by two flying types (e.g. Zard Y with Heat Wave and Aerodactyl with Rock Slide).

Also have at least one Pokemon having moves that hit non-adjacent opponents (e.g. Aura Sphere). Mat Block Greninja also helps as it at least almost gives you a free pass (this works in doubles too).

Ideally, you really would want to be all-out offensive in Triples as the the match can quickly turn the tide in the opponent's favour. I guess you can try to set-up a bulky mon by bringing in Mat Block Greninja first.

Also, I love Zard Y - he has helped me win a couple of Maison trophies since X.

Thanks for the help everybody. I was leaning toward singles or doubles just because triples doesn't seem to be very popular.

Also are berries, weakness policy, and other disappearing items are replenished after each maison battle, or not?

Yes, they spawn back again.
